Privacy and terms

The short version
- I count visits so I know which pages people read and where they came from.
- I don't know who you are unless you email me or fill out a form.
- I never sell or share your info with advertisers. There are no ads here.
- Want something deleted? Email contact@alinganil.com and I'll do it.
What I collect when you visit
Every page you open sends me a small note with:
- Which page you opened, and any tags on the link (like utm_source=linkedin, or the share code from a shared link).
- Which site sent you here, if your browser says so.
- Your browser and device type (for example: Safari on a phone).
- Roughly where you are: country, region and city, figured out by my host from your connection. Your IP address itself is not saved.
- Whether you look like a bot, so bots don't mess up the numbers.
To tell one visit from the next, the site uses:
- A visitor ID cookie: a random code, kept for a year. It isn't your name or email, just “same browser as last time.”
- A visit ID stored in your browser that resets after 30 minutes of doing nothing.
- A “seen the intro” cookie for one day, so the greeting screen doesn't show every time.
Likes, shares and notifications
- Likes: I save that someone liked a post, tied to a scrambled version of your visitor ID. Nobody sees like counts but me.
- Shares: when you share something, I note which platform you picked and give the link a short code, so I can see if the share brought anyone back.
- Notifications: only if you turn them on. Your browser gives me an address to send alerts to. Turn them off on the same page, or block notifications for this site in your browser, and it's gone.
Forms
If you send a message or suggest a project, I keep what you typed (name, email, message), plus your IP address and browser info. That's there to stop spam, not to track you. I only use your email to reply.
Who else touches your data
- Vercel hosts the site, so it sees normal web traffic like any host does.
- Supabase stores the database (visits, likes, form messages).
- Arcjet blocks bots and attacks, so it checks requests on the way in.
- GIPHY serves the GIFs on the Thoughts page, so your browser loads them straight from GIPHY.
- Company logos load from Brandfetch and Google, so those load from them too.
- Buttons like “Open in ChatGPT” or “Share on LinkedIn” take you to those sites, and their rules apply once you're there.
The vulnerability and outage pages pull public data from NIST, CISA, the Federal Register and company status pages. None of your info goes to them.
Getting your data deleted
Email contact@alinganil.com and tell me what you want gone. Clearing your cookies also cuts the link between you and past visits, since the visitor ID is the only thing tying them together.
Terms, the short version
- What I write here is mine. Quote it, link it, share it, just credit me.
- Guides are for learning. Follow them at your own risk, and test before you try anything on something important.
- Nothing here is legal advice, even the privacy and cyber law stuff. I'm studying law, I'm not your lawyer.
- Don't attack, overload or scrape the site. It's rate limited and it will block you.
- Links to other sites are there because I think they're useful. I don't control them.
- If this page changes, the date at the top changes too.
